Roof Repair in Co. Limerick
10 businesses offering roof repairs across Co. Limerick.
Almost every roof repair starts as a diagnosis rather than a repair, because water rarely announces itself where it got in. It enters at a defect, runs along the top of a rafter or the back of the felt until something interrupts it, and stains the ceiling there instead. A damp patch beside a chimney breast is a reasonable clue; a damp patch in the middle of a landing ceiling is not. This is why a roofer worth having asks to get into the attic on a wet day, and why a quote given from the ground for a leak nobody has traced is a guess with a number attached to it.
The defects themselves are a short list seen in endless variations. Slates slip because the nails holding them have rusted through, which is the condition that decides whether a roof is worth patching at all: if the slates are sound but the fixings are failing, the next one will go in the next gale and the one after that a month later, and at some point stripping and re-covering costs less than an open-ended run of call-outs. Flashings fail where the roof meets something else, at chimneys, abutment walls and valleys, and cracked mortar fillets patched with sealant are one of the most common things a roofer is called back to undo. Ridge and hip tiles work loose, valley gutters block and back up under the slates, and storm damage tends to find whatever was already marginal.
Before booking, ask what the roofer believes the cause is and how they established it, rather than only what they intend to replace. Establish whether access equipment is included in the price or added later, because working at height safely is a real part of the job and a repair quoted off a ladder is not the same offer as one quoted with a tower or scaffold. Get the guarantee in writing and check whether it covers the repair alone or the surrounding area too. What drives the price is mostly access, the pitch and height of the roof, the covering material and whether matching slates or tiles can still be sourced.

Common questions
Why is the damp patch nowhere near the hole in the roof?
Because water travels once it is inside. It runs down the underside of the covering or along a rafter until it meets a nail, a joint or a light fitting, and drops there. That is why tracing a leak usually means getting into the attic while it is actually raining, or running a hose over sections of the roof in sequence. A roofer who replaces the nearest visible slate to the stain without doing that has a fair chance of fixing nothing.
Should I repair this roof or re-cover it?
The question to settle first is whether the slates are failing or the fixings are. Slate itself lasts a very long time; the nails holding it do not, and once they start corroding, slates slip one after another for reasons no individual repair addresses. If a roofer is being called back repeatedly for single slipped slates on an older roof, that pattern is the answer. If the covering is sound and the problem is one flashing or one valley, repair is the sensible option.
Do I really need scaffolding for a small repair?
Sometimes, and it is worth understanding why rather than treating it as padding. Access equipment is chosen for the height, the pitch and how long someone has to work up there with both hands occupied. A quick look at a low single-storey roof is a different proposition to replacing ridge tiles on a steep two-storey one. The thing to avoid is a price quoted as though no access equipment is needed and then revised upward once work starts, so ask explicitly whether it is included.
Is storm damage covered by my house insurance?
It depends on your policy and on the distinction insurers draw between storm damage and gradual deterioration, which is where most disputes over roof claims sit. A roof that lost tiles in a named storm is a different claim to one that was already failing and finally gave way. Take photographs before anything is disturbed, keep the damaged materials if you safely can, and get the roofer to describe the cause in writing rather than only listing the work done.
