Heat Pump Installation in Co. Carlow
3 businesses offering heat pump installation across Co. Carlow.
A heat pump moves heat rather than burning fuel, extracting it from outside air or from the ground and delivering it into a home at a lower flow temperature than a gas or oil boiler. Air-to-water units are the common choice for Irish retrofits; ground source costs more to install and needs land for a loop or borehole.
Because the flow temperature is lower, a heat pump only performs well in a home that holds its heat. That usually means insulation and airtightness work first, and often larger radiators or underfloor heating, since existing radiators may be undersized for the lower temperature. A proper installation starts with a heat loss survey, not a quote off the shelf.
SEAI operates grant support for heat pumps, and grant-funded work requires a technical assessment and an installer on the SEAI registered list. Check current eligibility and grant amounts directly with SEAI, as the terms are revised periodically.

Common questions
Will a heat pump work in an older Irish house?
It can, but usually only after insulation and airtightness are addressed. A heat pump runs at a lower flow temperature than a boiler, so a draughty or poorly insulated house will feel cold and run up high electricity bills. A heat loss survey should come first.
Do I need to replace my radiators?
Often, yes. Radiators sized for a boiler running at high temperature are frequently undersized for a heat pump. The survey will identify which ones need upgrading, and underfloor heating suits heat pumps particularly well.
Is there a grant available?
SEAI runs grant support for heat pump installation, subject to a technical assessment and using an installer from their registered list. Amounts and eligibility change, so confirm current terms with SEAI directly rather than relying on third-party summaries.
