Exterior Painting in Co. Laois

Exterior painting in Ireland is decided by the weather far more than by the paint. A wet and windy climate means surfaces need to be genuinely dry before coating, and the practical season runs from late spring into early autumn. Painters book up across that window, so the work is usually arranged well in advance of when you want it done.

Most of the job is preparation, and that is where quotes differ. Washing down to remove dirt and organic growth, scraping back flaking material, treating any mould or algae, filling cracks in render, and priming bare patches all happen before the first proper coat. A quote that is notably cheaper than the others is often quoting less preparation rather than less profit, so it is worth asking specifically what surface preparation is included and how many coats are allowed for.

The right product depends on the substrate. Masonry and render want a breathable masonry paint, since trapping moisture in a wall causes more damage than leaving it uncoated; older solid walls in particular need a coating that lets moisture move. Timber fascias, soffits and windows need the rot checked and made good first, because paint over soft timber fails quickly. Access matters too: anything above ground floor brings ladders, towers or scaffolding into the price, so confirm whether access equipment is included and that the business carries public liability insurance.
